CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS - THE DRAWING ROOM
Call for Submissions
http://drawnfestival.ca/
A featured component of Drawn 2010, this juried exhibition will showcase drawing as an innovative artistic discipline with a unique and vital role to play in contemporary cultural expression. At once a celebration of the medium’s diversity and an investigation into its underlying unities, The Drawing Room aims to take the pulse of current drawing practices in Canada, giving the public an opportunity to engage with the dynamic work and talent of artists from across the country.
The competition is open to Canadian artists of professional standing aged 18 years or older. Drawing will be interpreted broadly as any form of mark making. There is no limitation on style and technique. Innovative works encompassing a wide range of artistic practice are encouraged.
A jury panel made up of six distinguished members of the visual arts community will choose 50 works by 50 artists for inclusion in the exhibition and the accompanying catalogue. Both the exhibition and the festival launch will be held at the Pendulum Gallery in downtown Vancouver. The exhibition runs July 17-August 7.
Submission deadline: May 29, 2010
Submission fee: $35 *
* All money raised through the Drawing Room submission process will be used to directly support the activities of the volunteer-run Vancouver Drawing Festival Society (VDFS). In particular, the collected fees will help cover costs associated with The Drawing Room juried exhibition, including venue rental, display and lighting, framing and/or installation, security, promotion, catalogue production costs (photography, printing, design and distribution), and opening and closing receptions. A more detailed financial statement will be made available upon request after the conclusion of the festival.
